How to make the subject of being a success in life interesting and worth reading and talking about seems a strange challenge.  You would think it would be pretty easy.  Everybody would want to be successful wouldn’t they?  Unfortunately for all of us, it isn’t that simple.

I suppose the challenge starts with the definition of success.  It depends so much on your circumstances, that defining the subject has more to do with the processes than the situation.

In writing my views on personal success for my radio program “Hints for Personal Success”, I did not even notice that the bulk of my examples came back to the interactions people were having every day.  It was not so much about long term planning as it was about the tools that let you enjoy and move forward in each situation you faced.

As I started to put everything together for this more permanent learning guide, I realised that the subject needed to be more specific because it needed to be immediately useful if it was to catch anyone’s imagination.

In getting help from a range of people to see how the ideas would be used, I realised that only one thing needed to be changed in a person’s life for the ideas to be useful.  To expect more was unrealistic, because there was just too much happening to everybody.  In fact the simpler I could make it the better it would be.

I have always said to the people I have coached, that if you can grasp firmly just the one thing that you want at the time and make it happen, you will have achieved a change that will bring you the feeling of success.  This book is about identifying that one thing, doing it, feeling what success is and moving on with a new view of your life and what success means to you.

Most importantly, success is what you want not what anyone else tells you should want.  In a world that is increasingly complex and social pressure through a variety of media has you under pressure, the key to success is to remain grounded in your own reality.  Personal Success aims to help you find that reality.  I hope it does.
